Last night it was about 3 a.m. and we had the usual hardways, field bets, and finger snaps. We were trying to move the dice as fast as possible so we
could bust these fools and close the game so we could go home. Player has a $10 hard 8 and it hits. Stick man tells me to pay him $90 (we pay 10 for 1) so
to save time I grab a stack of red from the bank, hand it off to the player, and tell him to drop me 2 red. My box gives me a hard time about it saying
I'm an idiot and what not. After thinking about it for a while I don't see what was wrong with it. If I gave him 4 green and asked for 2 red nobody
would have said a word. But this player needed more red and this move saved time and allowed the dice to go out quicker than if I had cut out $90 and stacked
it back up and handed it off. At first glance I can see why it looks awkward, but after thinking about it, it's just plain faster. Isn't that what we
were going for...speed?

Phignootin wrote: Because you were asking for the same color you just gave him this makes you look stupid. If your allowed to hand him a full stack without running it down,
you ought to be able to hand him a full stack and just take the two red off the top yourself without asking him to drop any.

I couldn't agree with you more but this is just another dumb rule that is plaguing this game. We are not allowed to "take two off the top", but
he can take two off the top and hand them back to me. I do agree with you though, that would be much easier.

if your a real craps dealer, then be a real craps dealer and cut out 90 in the come. it's when you do bone head moves, you put yourself at risk of getting
written up for stupid shit. please dont take offense to this.

I agree this move is really terrible. We use to joke about tricking new dealers (all in good fun) to pay him 56 for a nickel, to try to get them to slow down
and not just take our word for it. Yes, it's good to keep a good game pace, but that doesn't really mean you should take shortcuts. Running down ninety
bucks shouldn't take but five seconds tops. If I were on the box, i'd just say...c'mon you are better than that.

Take the stack from the bank, take 2 off and add them to your working stack, then slide it over. If the eyes need to see it, cut it 3 ways in the Come, will
take all of 1 second. What's the problem?

If you're trying to get rid of him, why are you giving him 90 in red? Give him at least 2 green and hope he pockets it. If you give him 90 in red you are
basically accepting the fact he's going to be playing a while longer, in which case, there's no point in trying to "save time" and you could
just cut the whole thing out. Am I right?

GeeJoon wrote: Yes, I agree that this move would save 5 or less seconds as opposed to cutting it out. But how many moves have you spent time to learn that saves much
less than 5 seconds. It is our job to become as fast and efficient as possible on this game to increase the number of rolls per hour and in turn increase our
own tokes. If anybody disagrees with any of this you need to reevaluate why you show up for work.
If you are just going to say, "A real dice dealer would do this......" or "This is just a bonehead move", I ask you to answer two questions. Did I save time with this move (regardless of how little)? Did I break any procedures? I feel like the creativity of dealing this game has died and everyone has fallen into the idea of 'This is the way it was done before me so it must
be the best way to do it now.' I say don't be afraid to be creative on the game as long as you are saving time or more importantly a back bend as long
as you are following procedure. I'm sure that the first person to cut out $55 to press the 6&8 from 24 to 30 got chewed out by his box too.

Well, you kind of sound like Walter from The Big Lebowski saying "Am I right? Am I right? Am I right?" when it comes to saving time. Ok I will give
you that, you are saving time on a brutal move, and if you are good at cutting cheques, maybe 2-3 seconds.
I was taught on that move you can grab a stack, take two off the top and hand it out, with red. As far as your move goes, I would say it's not correct procedure. That would fall under the same rule of "don't total on the line if you aren't saving cheques" you are giving people money to give it back to you. If you were dealing to me i'd take two of the top of the stack you just handed me and give them back. It just doesn't make any sense, plus if you allow a dealer to do that, where does it end? Ok, you have $50 on the 5, drop me a green and a red and i'll give you a stack of red. Why would you give someone the exact chips he's going to give back to you. I think there is plenty of room to be creative in craps, creating your own way of doing things that doesn't make any sense isn't one of them. Not to mention pure speed isn't the only thing you are going for. I worked at the Barbary where they ran over the players so bad they left, you don't want that do you? Besides i'd rather have dealers go at 80% and smooth than 100% speed and be all over the place. I'd say we'd be going for 1) Accuracy 2) Customer Service 3) Pace (decent not break-neck speed) By the way why the hell would you give someone all red if you wanted to get rid of him, that looks like a 3 green and 3 red payoff if you ask me,and to be honest with you, if I were your box, i'd tell you not to do that again. Defend it all you want, the move is brutal. (I dealt craps for ten years)
