Becoming a casino host |

I have aspirations of one day becoming a casino host, and I was wondering what would be the best road map for getting that job? What I mean is what would be a
good position to start out at to wake my way up? Would being a dealer be good way to get experience, so I can someday be a host or should I be one of those
people who sign people up for players' club cars? Would I need a college degree to be a host?

I think it's more your personality and being in the casino for a while. I had a friend that started as a "towel boy" when he was in college at
UNLV. He ended up being a Casino Host, working his way up the ladder. I hear there is some heavy competition when a spot opens up as well. Work hard and put
in your time and good things usually happen.

You can work your way up from just about any department. My son started out at the pool. They really liked his personality and brought him inside to sign
people up for players cards. He is now a VP of Marketing. He only has a high school education, but I'm sure college helps. I did want my son to go to
college, but he was more interested in working right away. In his case, it was all personality that moved him up. It's pretty much the juice factor that
gets you those jobs. Networking, getting to know the right people, being good with the customers will help.

It also helps if your parents were never married...Oh..wait.. Never mind. I'm thinking you have to be a complete bastard to be a Casino Table Games VP or
Casino Owner. My fault.

VP of marketing doesn't come close to the income of a casino host. Most high tip, and or commission jobs, require juice. I believe casino hosts work on
commission, based on the casino profits of those they host.

What's your problem SpinBall? I've never done anything to you. Why the nasty comments? Are you trying to start a fight? My son worked his way up.
What's wrong with that? He was at the pool and worked his way up as a host then to marketing VP. No reason to make nasty comments about his parentage.
You sound pretty bitter to me.

My son did work as a host before becoming a marketing VP. Believe me. There's a lot more perks for a VP of marketing than a host gets. He's the one
who hires the hosts, now.

Like most people have said, you can become a host from any department. However, yes dealing helps as does going to the floor. Both positions bascially put
you in a spot to meet and talk to table games players. I've seen people transfer from both positions to a casino host, I've seen relatives of bigwigs
with no work experience whatsover become casino hosts - in alot of casinos it really is a juiced in position. You do not need a college degree although having
one would help.
