Member Posts: 150 06/15/08 07:00	I would like to know why when a thread is started on any topic, Asians becomes a favorite target for ridicule. I came to the United States of America when I was seventeen, thirty-five years ago. The entire time prior to coming to the "world", I was excited and looking forward to being part of the "American" society. The first thing I did when I hit the "American" soil was to apply for citizenship. I studied hard, learning the government, American History, American (high standards) and the "American" English language. I became an "American" citizen. AND I am damn proud of it. It took me five long years. The proudest moment of my life to this day is when I was sworn in as an "American" citizen. However, I am still proud of my Asian ancestry. My Asian culture, my Asian ways and my Asian soul. I worked hard and pay my taxes, American taxes. I speak English with no accent and I am fluent in five languages not including English. I went to American college and earned an accounting degree, practiced accounting for sixteen years. I chose gaming because of the diversity and the challenges this career provided. It saddens me whenever a poster bashes Asians. I work hard and I contribute to the tokes. I can deal to whatever nationality and make money. I do not think I am an exception; I just work like any other dealer who wants to make money. So tell me, WHY do so many of YOU hate us Asians?

The problem is that they aren't and never will be because they refuse to put any effort into it at all. I have said before: if asian couples would attempt to speak English at home, they would get better.

Member Posts: 1803 06/16/08 01:51 Mod	The things that people get pissed off about are not unique to Asian emigrants, The problem is when people blame an entire culture for the problems of a few. I.e. someone who makes the blanket statement like "These Asians are all worthless." that kind of statement is based on bigotry and prejudice. But if someone where to say something like "Some of these Asian dealers should make more effort to learn English," That's not bigoted at all. To judge an entire race because of a few bad apples is completely wrong. but there is nothing wrong with someone not liking someone because of aspects of their personality that are not specific to their race. Where things get cloudy is when someone excuses one race for some shortfall that they will not excuse from another race. For example, a casino manager might not be so hard on an Easter European who doesn't speak English well, but wont even consider hiring a Chinese person who has the same English skills. Some of you may wonder why I'm speaking about language skills for my examples. The reason is that our employers are focusing more on customer service skills rather than technical skills. Those of us who are native English speaking dealers hare held to a higher standard in many cases because our employers know that we speak fluent English. Then we see a foreign dealer for example who hasn't yet learned English besides a few basic phrases. This dealer is permitted to stand there and be nothing more than a card flipper who never speaks to his or her customers. Not only is this person not as likely to earn as much in tokes, but he isn't subject to the same disciplinary standards as a dealer who does speak fluent English. Dealers have a right to be upset by this double standard, but not at an entire race. If anything, we should be more upset that management is allowing this to occur. A lot of people don't realize they often make blanket prejudicial statements. It is wrong and you have a right to be offended by it. I have read several recent comments and I am probably even guilty myself of doing it. I think it's long past time for us all to think about what we are about to say before we say it. Member Posts: 198 06/16/08 02:20	geffen... u r correct in what u say..... i think that along with people who live in the usa like for foreigners wanting to speak english is also probably wanting them to understand the american way ... the american beefs (annoyances)... and the freedom we know we can utilize if we wish. ... perhaps it is the american way to know that we have the freedom to utilize the things that are there for us... that is probably the most important thing that we as americans welcoming others from asian culture would like them to know.. they came here ... got citizenship.. green cards... what have u, and joined us in our american way of working... then, some of them were granted the right to vote union or not union and alot of americans see them as not understanding and just being happy to be there... so since they dont understand, they vie with the employer because this is a great world here at the moment.... little do they know that we americans know that we can have what freedom gives us here and we wish they would understand our rights .... because if they did... alot of them that have not joined us, Would!

Member Posts: 599 06/16/08 02:48	If I came across as bigoted, I apoligize. My point is that a dealer can come in, with outstanding credentials, and be turned down for a job. A pretty young Asian female can come in and get hired with minimal experience.

Forget all of that other bull_shit like life, liberty, and the pursuit of justice. The most important thing for immigrants to learn is if you're lucky enough, work hard enough, and somehow escape the biases and land a good job its your duty as an american to join a union to protect the lazy, lump american dealers. My wife is chinese and she finally got a very good dealing job last year and all the asian bashing on this site is just plain jealously. These over the hill, unattractive dealers see all the attention pretty asian dealers get and try to make themselves feel better by trying to put them down in anyway they can. If americans(me included) had the work ethic and drive that most of our asian dealers had than America would be in a lot better shape. Rather than being fat and lazy. The last time you looked at an E.O. list what was the percentage of american dealers to asian dealers(90%-10%)

My belief at that time was the harder I worked, the more knowledge I gained, I would attain the American Dream. I applied this attitude when I started a new career in gaming. My first game was craps. After a couple of years, I decided to learn more games. I can deal the major games efficiently (without giving my floor too much of a headache.) I kept this "hard work" attitude until the last five years. I finally realized that this generation of corporate ran casinos do not care about employees like me. To answer your question Gef: Yes, the new Asian arrivals are so grateful to have this easy and gainful employment. They will and do whatever management instructs without questions. Give them a few years. When they really become "Americanized", they will be just like the rest of us "Dealers".

THE CUSTOMERS HAVE ALTERNATE WAYS TO GET A DRINK i.e. THEY CAN GO TO THE VENDING MACHINES OR GO TO THE FOOD COURT OR EVEN TO A BAR TO GET A DRINK. They don't have to tip if they get their own drink. We, as dealers don't really offer much service. Either we are treated as a "human" machine to deal cards or dices or we are treated as "entertainers" to let the players have a good time playing the games. IF THE PLAYERS CAN SERVE THEMSELVES BY GETTING THEIR OWN CARDS, I AM SURE 50% OF THEM WILL DO JUST THAT. I SAY THIS BECAUSE 50% OF CUSTOMERS ARE GAMBLERS. ALL THEY WANT IS TO WIN. THEY DON'T CARE WHETHER YOU LIGHT THEIR CIGARETTES OR KISS THEIR ASSES. THEY WANT TO WIN AND IF THEY WIN, THEY WILL THROW IN SOMETHING FOR YOU. THEY TIPPED BECAUSE THEY WIN. ALL WE NEED TO DO IS TO SMILE AND 'ACT' AS THOUGH WE ARE ON THEIR SIDE. I understand a small fraction of customers will tip more because the dealer was able to 'communicate' better but WINNING still talks and bullshit walks. CUTE ASIAN GIRLS DROP THE MOST TOKES-PERIOD. So, as an employer, I think they will prefer hardworking employees who have limitations rather than 'better' dealers who complains and constantly talking about RIGHTS. How would you feel if your children who are dependant on you constantly talk to you about RIGHTS. Please examine this scenario. Steve Wynn did not take a portion of the dealers' tokes to gave to the supervisors, but instead he employed 200 more extra boards.Bottom line is there will not be a disparity concerning income for the floormen and the dealers. The dealers' tokes are cut more ways among themselves. Mr Wynn did not realize that his dealers did not think that way. All he did was trying to please the floormen. NOW Wynn dealers. CAN YOU THINK THE WAY I DESCRIBE ABOVE SO THAT ALL OF YOU WILL FEEL BETTER AND NOT GO TO 'WAR' with HIM? By the way, what I really want to ask is DO YOU WYNN DEALERS JOIN THE UNION JUST BECAUSE MR. WYNN EMPLOYED 200 MORE EB DEALERS. How come the dealers at the Venetian/ Palazzo did not go union when the company hire so many extra boards? The floormen actually earn more than the dealers now.
