Graduation and vacation planning are the main reasons for the casinos to be quiet. However, these last two weeks have been excruciatingly *DEAD. We had a slot free play give-a-way two nights ago. We had a free car give-a-way last night. Normally, the casino is packed during the drawings. NOT* this year. Normally, May is the month my casino *HIRES………..NOT this year……. This IS scary…………. This Memorial Weekend is going to predict the summer business. Gas and food prices going up, up and a way……..home foreclosures, home insurance way up…………who has free money to gamble? I have always had a positive outlook in life. I survived many gloom and doomed economy (70's oil embargo, 80's junk bonds.) But,,,,,,,,,,,for the very first time in my sixteen years in gaming, I am becoming a worried individual. AND, I am an individual who has major assets, coming close to retirement, and crying and having nightmares of pushing a shopping cart. SCAREY HUH???????????*

My wife and I have worked as dealers for the last fifteen years and have maxed out both 401ks for that time. Along with an average 7% return we are set and we are only 38 and free to do what ever we choose. House paid off and no real debt. it can be done. Our motivation was a cousin of mine who introduced us to the business. He has had one of the best jobs in town for the last 30 years and still to this moment does not have a pot to piss in.

I told her the way prices are rising it may cost you 300 to get home. Seriously though when it costs that much just to get to us, we have to be extremely professional and try even harder not to piss off ANY players. It is going to be a bumpy ride for a while and we just have to dummy up and deal.

Yesterday (Saturday the 24th), was moderate. Today was much better. Full spread, only 1 person went home on the e/o. Two games were closed, one crap table (lack of dealers on our shift), and one because the computer was malfunctioning (Let It Die). There were a fair amount of out-of-towners, probably because of the stimulate-me checks (a hunch). But the regulars were not around (assorted fleas and tokers alike), because of the annual Mudbug Madness festival downtown on the riverfront. Either way, not a bad weekend. Tomorrow? Only time will tell.
