Well, you kind of sound like Walter from The Big Lebowski saying "Am I right? Am I right? Am I right?" when it comes to saving time. Ok I will give you that, you are saving time on a brutal move, and if you are good at cutting cheques, maybe 2-3 seconds.
I was taught on that move you can grab a stack, take two off the top and hand it out, with red. As far as your move goes, I would say it's not correct procedure. That would fall under the same rule of "don't total on the line if you aren't saving cheques" you are giving people money to give it back to you. If you were dealing to me i'd take two of the top of the stack you just handed me and give them back. It just doesn't make any sense, plus if you allow a dealer to do that, where does it end? Ok, you have $50 on the 5, drop me a green and a red and i'll give you a stack of red. Why would you give someone the exact chips he's going to give back to you. I think there is plenty of room to be creative in craps, creating your own way of doing things that doesn't make any sense isn't one of them.
Not to mention pure speed isn't the only thing you are going for. I worked at the Barbary where they ran over the players so bad they left, you don't want that do you? Besides i'd rather have dealers go at 80% and smooth than 100% speed and be all over the place. I'd say we'd be going for 1) Accuracy 2) Customer Service 3) Pace (decent not break-neck speed)
By the way why the hell would you give someone all red if you wanted to get rid of him, that looks like a 3 green and 3 red payoff if you ask me,and to be honest with you, if I were your box, i'd tell you not to do that again.
Defend it all you want, the move is brutal. (I dealt craps for ten years)
I think you misinterpreted. I agree it's a terrible move, and I was basically saying the same thing you ended with. If you're trying to get rid of
a player, don't give them all red anyway. Give them all red and they're going to play for a while, in which case saving time is pointless.
