I watched that documentary of his detailing how humanity is somehow capable of destroying the earth, yes, this same earth that was around billions of years before homo sapiens. Do you think we would actually be talking on this thing called an Internet and creating all these harmful carbon emissions if we were not in-between ice ages? I think it would be hard to do these things if it was still 100 degrees below zero. I think George Carlin said it best, "The earth isn't going anywhere, we are!!!"

Perhaps, but most won't be going anywhere in cars, or going very far at all. People underestimate the excellent design of this planet. There was no way it was going to provide the tools of its own destruction. The smog gets too bad, the oil, etc., runs dry as if on cue. The population gets too big, by about 5 billion, their learned dependence on fossil fuels makes the cull simple. All you have to do is prepare to ride out the storm. There will be a bonanza at the end for all who survive. Of course, there will probably be downsides too. I'll still be around, for one thing. Cockroaches and me.

Unless you can mate with the cockroaches. I'll go out on a limb and state that an NSB/cockroach hybrid would be one annoying creature. You both would still have to contend with asteroids however, and if the sun decided to collapse into itself and form a black hole or something, that could make survival dicey as well. It was on one of the educational channels (National Geographic, I think). It talks about how the Earth self regenerates. Rather interesting. It states that we are doing nothing but speeding up the process of self regeneration. That the Earth was designed to have increasing temperatures and ice ages. Sometimes when you see the marvel of the Earth, it really does give you pause for thought as to whether their really is an 'ultimate designer.'

Wiki Petroleum: Oil is formed from the preserved remains of prehistoric zooplankton and algae which have been settled to the sea (or lake) bottom in large quantities under anoxic conditions. Terrestrial plants, on the other hand, tend to form coal. Over geological time this organic matter, mixed with mud, is buried under heavy layers of sediment. This current path were on can't end happily. It has to end somewhere, somehow. I'm not saying we should start some "doomsday cult" or anything, but... I don't see this ending happily for all of us involved. TOOL said it best... "learn to swim". "Survival of the species." Truer words were never spoken. The only way out of this mess is human ingenuity (sp?) See, I firmly believe that "necessity is the mother of all invention". As of now, we don't "need" to drive our SUV's on solar power, so therefore... we currently drive on fossil feuls. When the time comes, I think we'll be alright. (At least here in the good ol' U.S. of A.!) We seem to be able to fall into a mudhole and come out smelling like a rose! It really is amazing. We have the greatest minds of all time working towards a better place. I'm serious, we are head and shoulders above the rest of the world. That being said, I think it only prolongs the enevitable... we have to run out of resources. I think our end will be due to a virus, not an oil shortage. But that's just me... I'm accused of being homophobic a lot, so I guess the fine folks that accuse me of that see my fear of the unknown. I see how disease is uncontrolable to those who have not built up a tolerance... I see a lot of us that have not built up a tolerance for the unknown. After all, how could one build a tolerance for the unknown? One can't. So therefore, one is vulnerable. So I see that as our fatal flaw as a species... 12 Monkeys, The Stand, Sodom and Gomorra, Noah and the Great Flood, The Matrix, Dark City, The Omega Man, The Time Machine, etc... I don't think I'm alone in this synopsis. There's lots of folks that feel the same way as I do. I'm not a "germaphobe" because I do not believe that one has "control" over such a thing. It's either going to happen, or not. I, as a single living organism, can do NOTHING to prevent it. (I'm not flipping out like Howard Hughes, or anything like that.) So my role is to accept whatever life brings to me. (In so much that I can control, that is.) If life dictates that I live to be 180 years old, so be it. If life dictates that I live to be 40, so be it. It's not up to me. I believe in a higher power. I don't understand that higher power, but I do believe that I am subject to it. I believe that I should learn from my mistakes. I believe that I have a soul. Where that soul goes... what does it do... what are the trials and tribulations that lie ahead of me... I do not know. I do know that I am ready to shed this mortal coil. I had to learn that the hard way as a young man with a heart condition. I had to learn to deal with my own mortality. Speaking of... At my joint, we just had a day one dealer die rather quickly from a cancer. I think we all are confronting our own mortality. It hasn't sunk in on me that he won't be around (Victor). As of now, I don't miss him because It's hard to not think of him being around... you know?!? I'm sure I will. After all, he won't be around and I'll think of situations and scenarios that involved him and his calm demeanor. As I'm typing this... I kinda miss him now. We all have to go. We all have to pass on. Let's try to prevent any "SLIP" from becoming a "SLIDE". I think the bible has some flaws in it because it was written by the hands of men. But I do believe that enough has gotten through to teach us how to live our lives in our current state of being that will be beneficial to our fellow human beings. "Karma", I guess. "Yin/Yang", I guess. "Moderation", I guess. I tend to dismiss anyone who claims to know all of life's answers. How could one be so smart to know what the creator (or lack of creator) had in mind when "HE" (or no one) placed all of us together to communicate with each other? I have "ideas" that's it... I've spent my life contenplating them. After all of 37 years wondering "Why"? I'm no closer to my goal of understanding. That's not stopping me, I'll keep on trying to figure this thing out until I "get it". I miss Vic, that's weird... all of a sudden, while I was typing... He was a cool cat. He had a lof of life experience, he had a very cool demeanor about him. I wish I knew him better. I only hung out with him on a couple of occasions. I'm glad I was sincere with him. I'd hate to have any regrets with such a cool guy. Thankfully, I don't. I'm not beating my own drum here, I'm just thinking "out loud" as I type. I've always got a long with Victor, I don't know anyone who butted heads with him. Good guy. I miss him. I stood in the hallway expecting to see him even though I knew he wasn't coming in.
