Okay, I have a REVOLUTIONARY IDEA I am finally going to share with all of you (What? This guy has "ideas?)
I just want Dealers to THINK about this.
I have told several others close to me about this idea, and all seem to like it. They say it may be too much at this point in time, and they may be correct. Now I am throwing the idea out for all of the world to give an opinion on. Here goes:
We all know of the arguments of toke pooling vs. Table-for-table. We all know that we would all like to make more money. We all know that the key to making more money is customer relations. We all know that the casinos we all work for want us to enhance customer relations because it benefits the company, as it does the Dealers. I may have the solution![]()
Scenario A casino where the Dealers pool on a 24-hour cut
Each table has, or may have, a toke box attached to the table for the Dealer's tokes to be dropped in on the table.
During the course of the shift(s) those boxes are generally dropped in a llarge main toke box located in the middle of the pit.
At the end of the designated 24-hour period, all tokes are collected, counted and split according to the toke by-laws in place.
Now, picture this:
On EACH of the individual toke boxes located on the table, there is a LOCK. The Dealer does NOT have access to the lock. The individual box STAYS WITH THE DEALER, and when the Dealer goes on break, it is placed in a podium in the middle of the pit and will remain there until the Dealer returns from break, at which time the Dealer assumes possesion on THEIR locked box and returns to their table with it.
The Dealers are scheduled on a "round-robin" system (three tables in the string. When a Dealer returns from break they return to the next table where the Dealer is due out for a break and NOT the table they just came from. I think we all understand this system).
At the END of each Dealers shift, they then take their personal locked toke boxes to a room with an automatic cheque racker and a "toke cutter" manning it.
The Toke Cutter has the key to the individual boxes, unlocks the box and runs the chips through the machine. Now, let's say there was $2000 in your individual box for the shift,
from that YOU GET 10% OFF THE TOP and the remaining 90% gets dropped in the 24-hour toke pool.
Yes, the money will still come across a check.
What this does is satisfy those who want to "go for their own" and also those who want to pool.
Let's say a normal night and your cut is $200. With this method, take away 10% and you still have a $180 night from the toke pool. BUT, you also have the 10% YOU dropped, and if it is and additional $200 then you made $380 for the day. The thing is though, you will NEVER "blank out" because you will always get your cut of the 90% pool. So, even if you have a bad night, you still make tokes.
But the beauty of it is this, Dealers will now be on their own for 10% of what they drop, which will lead to better customer relations, which will keep the casino happy as well. Nobody lses more than 10% of what they would have normally made, but everyone has the opportunity to make much more than they normally would in a 100% pool.
People will say, "What about scheduling? I don't want to be on the same carnival game each night and always "blank out". Well, we have bingo and keno machines available don't we? So, ecah Dealer is assigned a permanaent number. Say your number is 55. The shift PRIOR to the begining of your shift the table assigments are LOTTERIED. Of cours you MUST be qualified to deal on the games being assigned when they come up, and if not, your ball goes back in until you are pulled for the games you are qualified for.
Also, every Dealer must also be qualified to deal carnival games. And, if you had a carnival game the shift before, you now go to the bottom of the carnival game rotation list, so everyone must have dealt on the carnies once before you.
The next argument is that it will be an administrative nightmare with payroll. Well, before computers I would agree, but not today. As the toke cutter is determining how much you dropped and your 10% total, they are also inputting the info onto the computer, just as today. Easy.
In addition, and this is OPTIONAL, there could be other toke boxes which the Dealer has the OPTION to drop some of their 10% into. THIS WOULD NOT BE MANDATORY!!!!!!!!!! There could be a box for say the pit clercks or the floor. Remember, in the past tipping other employees was comonplace amongst Dealers. many times in a dice pit the floor was "laid off". Many times in a TFT joint the Floor and the pit clerks would be given something from the Dealers. We could do it again if we CHOSE to. NOT MANDATORY!!!!!!!!
Well everyone, what do you think? Would it work? If you have a "problem" with it, before posting your argument against it, think about how the problem you see can be overcome, then post BOTH sides.
Okay, I am ready to be bashed by all of you know![]()
