I haven't gone anywhere else because:
a) I am always being sold on the dream of how I have the opportunity to transfer to the BJ department. However, we are always lied to and that day never seems to happen.
b) I personally avg. a little under $120/night. There are nights I make $300-$600...but I also see all the nights when some BJ dealers here are taking home over $1k. As for the places that pool...yes, some might average more than me, but it would start to bother me when I'm dropping twice as much as what I see in my paycheck. I like to make what I earn...I'm just pushing for equality at the place I work. All the dealers here do the same job, but yet we're still segregated.
c) I was hired at Pala, but I turned them down because we were bringing in roulette at the same time. We were told there would be separate roulette dealers with a high-limit rotation. I was one of the first dealers to volunteer and was in the first class of roulette training. I thought why would I want to go to Pala when I'm going to making over $1,500/week. However, they later made it mandatory for all part-time BJ dealers to take the class because not enough dealers in the class...because of this, me and the other pai-gow dealer who volunteered were not allowed to audition. BJ dealers now have the high-limit roulette rotation...and pai-gow has a dead roulette table in a rotation with a pai-gow, baccarat and a $10 blackjack table.
d) The casino is close to my house and is the only casino right off the freeway. I also love the people I work with. I live in a nice house, have 2 cars and make enough to afford to buy myself some toys to enjoy my life after work. This makes me think twice if it's worth spending almost 2 hours driving to work on windy little one-lane roads every day, just to make a few more $/hr. If the time came when I wasn't making enough to live comfortably, then I wouldn't think twice about looking for another place to work.
f) I've always been a person who fights to make things right. I'm not someone who can just pack up and leave when things aren't going my way or when things aren't fair. I think that's half the reason why corporations have so much power today...there aren't many individuals left who will stand up for what they believe in. You always see everyone talk and bitch to other co-workers about everything in the break room, but as soon as management asks them how everything is they back down and say nothing is wrong.
What would have happened to Wynn Casino if the dealers there would have just quit and went somewhere else because they weren't happy having their tips being stolen? Wynn would have just hired replacements the next day from the endless supply of dealers waiting to take their place. Then it would have been back to business as normal...with no unions in sight.
