What is this new movie "21" gonna do |
Lead | |
|
I was wondering about what the general clueless public is gonna do.When the arm wrestling movie "Over The Top" came out every one was arm wrestling
using Stallones little "Over the Top" move actually believing it worked. Then "Rounders" came out so everyone became a poker pro in thier
own eyes.I wonder if a bunch of idiots are flock to the blackjack table thinking thgey can count cards as if they read the back of a book and tried to do a
book report.Anyone who has been in this buisiness long enough knows that there is alot to counting that goes unknown. Now the big question I have is are
supervisors going to address this with a laugh or will they chop are shoes in half.I think they will laugh, which could possibly open the door for real
counters, but who knows.Movies seem to set trends thats all.

the movie was good... but, if you read "bringing down the house" and "busting vegas" as i did, you will be a bit dissapointed... the books
were definitely better. .... but of course, if you didn't read the books... then i think the movie is great! go see it! i don't see where any
corp. casino will learn anything new.

A feeding frenzy for casinos
|
Seriously, over 90% of people who try to count are failures. Lack of basics, lack of bankroll, lack of luck (variance) and a ton of other reason that the
possibility of getting a 1% edge just does not translate into more money in their pockets. Presently cardcounters are of little threat, sure a well financed
team or a casino so stupid that would let someone betting at whale levels count can be a threat, but individual counters, even good ones do not add up to
anything.
So if tons of new people try counting without doing a good job reading several books, practicing at home for months, experimenting first in casinos at the lowest level games, all that will happen is that the casino will have more losing players losing at bigger rates (because of bet spread) most of those not even knowing the basics of blackjack, much less advantage play. Any casino manager who thinks he needs to cut his profits by moving the cut card toward the front should be instructed to sit in a corner of the pit with a dunce cap. This whole thing, if it brings more people to the tables, will bring more money into the casino. Ros |

It will not make a difference
|
You can count all day, but if you do not have the bank roll and the knowledge of when and how to vary your bet it will not make a difference. There is a a
formula that tells you how to bet depending on the count. If I am not mistaken the movie did not talk about true count, just the running count. Big
difference.
Just in case you missed it on every other post on this message board, G Money think employer mandated tip pooling is against the law, and that casino are allowing dealers to steal from each other. |

The movie sucked.... | ||

but it can do nothing but good for Las Vegas. Anything that popularizes gambling during this time is good. As far as counting, you don't need to know the true count to count, just use an unbalanced counting system. There are an entire range of counting systems, the more advanced ones use a more complex value system than -1,0,+1 that is shown in the movie. Most counters are unsuccessful for 2 reasons: lack of talent and lack of a bankroll. Counting, like the house edge, only has an advantage over the long term. Getting to the long term is the tricky part; the reason why the house always wins is because they have an unlimited bankroll. |

I'm pretty adept at counting cards, but I don't win because I still never get the right cards anyway.
Thoughts about the movie (no spoilers): I cringed when Kevin Spacey's character was awkwardly pulling cards out of shoe in the first BJ classroom scene. It seemed the view from every one of their hotel rooms never matched up with where they were supposed to be staying. It looked like Ben was playing hands of $20k+ out on the regular gaming floor. Was anyone here in the movie? |
