union tipping campaign |

This was in the Sun today. Does anyone besides me think that this will backfire with the public and make them think we are greedy? I think it's ridiculous to say that most people don't know to tip the dealer. And those that are stiffs are not going to start tipping because the union told them they should.

I would tend to dispute that. I can't see why any player would think that tipping a cocktail waitress is ok but not a dealer. Given the locals logic, they realize that if they don't tip a cocktail waitress, it will be a very long time before they get another drink. However, a dealer must deal to them regardless, so hence, they do not need to tip a dealer. It must be noted that many joints have tip jars. Restaurants advertise 'prices do not include gratuities' or worse yet, sometimes a gratuity is automatically added to your bill. I can't see how an advertisement for tipping will hurt as those who knowingly don't tip will always find a reason. It just may open peoples eyes to the plight of the off strip dealer. |

Well we could all wear pins that say "Tipping is not a city in China" but then well, some folks would take offense to that

I really do not think it will effect our toke's one way or the other. But I do think it's cool they are spending that kind of money on billboards to support the union effort in town.
Billboards are very expensive. |

Quote: So I guess the real reason for this media campaign is to persuade dealers to vote for the union. Isn't that what unions use dues for? To recruit more dues paying members? But hey, I'm glad you think it's "cool". |

I totally disagree that most patrons in gaming DO NOT know about tipping dealers.
First of all, there have been too many movies, television and documentaries regarding the gaming industry. I know this is lame, but the public is NOT that ignorant. Also, I hope to god, that those who come across the newbie gambler EDUCATE them of how we make a living. I enjoy training new gamblers, AND I always make sure that the time I give them educating on HOW to gamble, is HOW to TIP. I agree, I think this media attention from the union is another way to lead dealers into thinking that the union will promote promises for better income. Please note, that I am not pro or anti union. I am and observer and an absorber at this time. |

I worked for a casino in the caribbean and after a patron took a learn to play lesson they were given a $5 match play coupon and a $1 tip coupon.
A great idea. |

A Station Casino I worked (Fiesta) for used to include a $1 tip for the dealer on their table games coupons. Stations wasn't making enough money so they discontinued the promotion.

I just linked to a news story at king5 in Seattle and saw a link there for twu 721.So i clicked it and there was 6 short tips for players about BJ and other
Casino issues. Each was ended by,"And the best tip of all Always tip your dealer".
First i was ,WTF . I hadn't read that this would be the approach.I watched all 6 and my first impression, Strong Arm. Curious where else the campaign is being tried , Seattle do they even come to Vegas? |
