How's the economy in Las Vegas??? |
Lead | |
|
I keep hearing that the economy is getting weaker but I really haven't felt it too much in my job. Sure, foreclosures in my area are increasing but we
still draw a good crowd on the weekends and during the week i can usually scrape up something good. Things don't seem too bad at all......so far.

It would be unsophisticated to think Las Vegas is a magical island unto itself immune from the effects of the communities that serve it and its visitors," he said at an investor conference call last month. "In general, we don't see a trend yet, but we're not immuneI have to agree with this article. Las Vegas' big problem is the mortgage meltdown. Instead of the steady growth we've been used to seeing, you're seeing a lot of choppiness here. Gaming revenues, one month revenues will be up, the next they're down unlike past patterns of up, up, up. Gas prices, lack of I-15 infrastructure improvements may hurt down the road soon. (No pun intended) The airline industry will play a very important roll on our economy. If they fall any further into debt we're going to be in big trouble. Overall, I feel the same pinch most other Americans feel when it comes to consumer spending. I'm a little more cautious this year with spending. |

I see the prices of things I buy keep going up. Things like groceries and gas are the biggest and most obvious to me. Work for me and for my husband seems to
be about the same. He works on the strip and I work a locals joint. Each place has cut out some extra board dealers and maybe some of the fat, making the
toke system a little leaner and better for those of us that are working.

i often say Las Vegas is home of Joe Dirt and the $9 an hour job...
and that's not too far from the truth.. The wages here can't support high home values that's why the market is melting down... |

The wages here can't support high home values that's why the market is melting down...
I have been saying this for years and now it has come to fruition. The Mega Resorts, slated to open within the next few years, will bring more jobs to those now making minimum wage. Those that come to Vegas in search of a new beginning will be welcome to apply for the minimum wage jobs vacated by those moving up the food chain. Hence we will see more of what this LVRJ article reports. http://www.lvrj.com/news/16429471.html |
