I have been dealing poker in a small poker room in a fairly new casino in northern nevada for the past four years. We have a Bad Beat jackpot which used to be capped at $5000. HOWEVER, we changed the rules a year or so ago and removed the cap. Last night, a player hit the bad beat which was currently at $22,000.
We have paid many bad beats over the course of our 4 years..well, maybe not MANY, i'd say about 8 or 9. And in the past our manager ALWAYS brought the payoffs back to the room and allowed the dealer who dealt the beat to pay off everyone. (BTW..in our room, when a bad beat is hit, all tokes received from the payouts are split between all dealers working that shift) (also, we have a NEW Poker room Manager who had not yet paid a bad beat since he took over)
THIS TIME, HOWEVER, while the manager was at the cage with the CSM, we get a call to the room asking us to send the two big winners to the cage to be paid off!!!!! OMG....when I and the other dealers heard that, we all just about blew our corks!!! I immediately rushed to the cage and pulled the CSM over and asked him WHY were they paying them off this way??? I told him we had ALWAYS paid the players off IN THE ROOM ON THE TABLE. And I explained to him that this will greatly reduce our chance of getting toked properly for these payoffs. He disagreed with me, and told me the reason they were doing it this way was because the players requested it be done away from the room, and they felt obligated to honor their wishes.
I , and the other dealers I worked with that night said they'd never seen this happen before and were as outraged as I was.
So, anyway, as expected, we DID get screwed in the tokes...the guy who got the big share, $11,000 came back in the room and quietly gave each of us (three of us) $100. The guy who got the second highest share, $6,000, took a check and totally stiffed us!! (a regular player who is normally a fair toker). The rest of the tables shares WERE payed on the table, and we received as much in tokes from those guys from their $750 shares as we did from the top two shares!!!!
Is this totally unbelievable? or what??
