I would like to see the "tip" withheld standardized at 3%, with someone explaining to players as they cash out what has been withheld, and that additional tipping is allowed. That's it. No pimping, but, at least an explaination. They can then do as they please, with no hard feelings from me if they choose to tip nothing more.

I agree with you except about standardizing the withheld amount at 3%. I just don't that amount is apprpriate for all tournaments. I would like to see some smaller tournaments (especially those trying to emulate the larger deepstacks) to increase the amount withheld. And clearly 3% is a pittance in small daily tournaments. One of the problems I see is that people have different ideas about what the amount withheld from the prize pool is for. I know that many players argue that if money is withheld that should be all that the dealers get, whereas I see the witheld amount representing a saftey net for dealers in case nothing is left -- a guarantee that they get something.

One issue I have with those who argue nothing more needs to be left at the WSOP Main Event -- citing the large amount withheld (aside from the fact that they usually misstate the amount withheld) is that they overlook that for the past couple of years the tokes for that event represent most of the income for very large number of dealers workling for 10 days or more. Sure that amount would be a ridiculous amount of money to be split up among 100 dealers doing a two day event, but its not the same when you have 600 dealers working for 10 days.

And yes management is getting way to much of the dealers tokes. Now let me be clear I don't really object to floorpeople, and brushes getting a little bit of the toke pool. I believe they are part of the team trhat earned the tokes and should share in them in reasonable amounts. I do object to high level employees with large salaries and bonuses getting a share of the tokes. the reason we are toked is that players recognize that our compensation from the casino is in fact relatively low because our position is traditiuonally one which relies upon tips. If we were making large salries and bonuses I would not expect players would continue to tip. As it is i do not believe that most players leaving tips at a tournament are intending for them to go to high paid executives or high paid tournament directors.
