The premise of the program is that this Doctor has devised a 22 level scale of "EVIL" that killers, pedophiles, rapists and the like are to be rated on. What makes one killer "more evil" than another killer... stuff like that.
Anyways, it's SUPER Creepy! It's got eery music and it's edited in that jump/blur style like the movie "7EVEN". It's one of those shows that as soon as a commercial comes on, I've got to double check that all of my locks are locked on my doors. It's not quite as creepy as one of those Burger King commercials, but it still creeps me out!
So last night the episode was about "Stalkers". I caught on the preview that he was going to put Mark David Chapman and John Hinkley on his scale of evil. I'm a big Beatles fan... so I made sure I didn't miss it. (Chapman assassinated John Lennon and Hinkley attempted to assassinate Ronald Reagan.)
What I found most shocking during the show was a GAMBLING connection!
They took like 20 people who had just been dumped by the object of their desires, put them in a "brain scan" device (MRI) and showed the brain activity that was generated by looking at their failed love interests photographs. The brain would show activity in sections of the brain that dealt with anger, loneliness, confusion, despair, and abandonment (no surprises there).
Then they went on to say that the SAME activity would go on in the brain when the subjects were... GAMBLING! GAMBLING!?! WTF!?!
At first, the subjects gambled on casino games but were only awarded or lost "points"... not money. There wasn't much activity. Then they performed the same tasks, but this time... with REAL money out of their OWN pocket. The brain scans that followed showed the SAME feelings of anger, loneliness, despair, etc... The SAME EMOTIONS!
Think about that folks! I'm serious, think about this conclusion. What this program has stated is that the addiction to gambling is the same mental state to that of a person who is a stalker!
I was watching the program with my wife and for the 1st time... I think she now understands what it's like for me to go to work and deal with the public when they are at a heightened state of being, or as I put it, under the influence of gambling. We deal with the Mr. Hyde's of the world, not the Dr. Jeckyll's. These folks that we come into contact with on a daily basis, are out of their mind! They are insane! They are deranged and dillusional. They are "gamblers".
Think about this, can one "reason" with a STALKER? Can a STALKER use common sense or logic when they are in their manic state? Is a STALKER someone that you want to spend your time with? Does a STALKER have control over his/her anger? Would you want ANY of your loved ones engaged in a relationship with a STALKER? Would you ever describe a STALKER with the words; unselfish, empathetic, caring, or kind?
Now take the word "STALKER" and simply replace it with the word, "GAMBLER"? They are one in the same my friends.
Of course I do not mean ALL gamblers have the mental state of stalkers. I'm talking about the ones that show up in their work clothes. I'm talking about the ones that are there longer than you are. I'm talking about the ones that arrive at the casino with no money. I'm talking about the ones that fly off the handle with their emotions and do not use any semblance of reason. I'm talking about the ones that spend more than they can afford. I'm talking about the ones that waste their "government check" or their retirement pensions for a few, fleeting hours of enjoyment only to be followed by DAYS of regret.
Actually, I guess I am talking about the "average" to hardcore gambler.
I don't think a person takes up the act of gambling under an ideal or serene condition. I don't think someone who is at peace with their existence gets the urge to participate in a behavior that will isolate themselves from their loved ones, take their money, and keep them in the company of the dregs of society. No one does that logically.
So the next time your shift ends and you are exhausted... now you know why.
You've been an un-willing participant in a deranged 8 hour ritual where the participants have the mindset of STALKERS!
How can you be anything else BUT exhausted?
