Member Posts: 60 05/04/08 10:32	Sorry, kind of ranting here. This base dealer is absolutely terrible too, so I don't know why he's trying to take on the task of watching the other end. I'm on stick, coming out, I've got like 3 horn hi yos and a bunch of other prop action. Seven, winner. 2 of the horn hi yos return. This base then is hanging near the middle holding a nickel in his hand. Goes like this: Him: $5 horn hi yo, straight out, returns. (noticing the other 2 horn hi yos) Did those return? Me: Yeah, don't worry about those. Him: Are you sure? Me: Am I sure? (looking at him like he's a fucking retard) Yeah, I'm sure. They're on the other end. Him: Whose are they? (keep in mind he's still just holding the nickel) Me: Jesus! Are you kidding me? Just drop the 5 bucks. Box is just sitting there watching this take place. When I said that last thing to him, he just muttered something under his breath and tossed me the nickel. WTF does he want? He wants me to point out the 2 players on the opposite end?!

Member Posts: 65 05/06/08 05:19	I would have grabbed $5 out of my working stack and told him, just worry about your end, and if i were in a really spunky mood, I would have told him, as soon as you can handle your end i'll clue you into what's happening on the other end. The box should have said something, it's not his job to make sure all the bets came back from the other end. You are right, you don't have to explain yourself to him. Or I might have said, put on a suit, then i'll answer to you.

Member Posts: 78 05/18/08 10:21	all the kid is trying to do is help. if you were trying to help and you got the kind of answers you people are giving how would you feel? you guys should start working as a team instead of trying to bash someone that is "in his mind" help. how about if he didn't have players on his end and he was asking you about the other players returning their bets? Still would be pissed? How about the base dealer at the wynn that got fired for not catching the mistake of the other dealer charging commission on a player side win? Stop trying to bash your other coworkers and go there, have fun and make some damn money.

It is the boxmans job along with the stickman and the other base dealer to watch that end. He's out of line plain and simple, as out of line as it would be for a janitor to come up to you when you are on a dead table telling you to smile more. He should really worry about his own end. Do you seriously think it's ok for someone on second base to ask the stickman about something that happend on the third base side? Where does it stop? The second base dealer watching the other base dealer pay the line, it's not his job and he shouldn't worry about it. And for the record, I don't get on coworkers unless it's an extreme case of not doing their job. Also, i'm about 99% sure the dealer on baccarat was supposed to be watching the mistake and wasn't and that's why they got fired.(if it wasn't that's really messed up, I don't deal big bacc) It'd be a total different story if the stickman wasn't watching his end, and the dealer made a huge goof on his watch, because that's his responsibility.

Member Posts: 339 05/20/08 05:41	I think that the biggest problem I have with this scenario is when the base dealer asks him, "Are you sure?" I have had base dealers do this to me in the past while on stick, and I politely tell them , "thank you, I got it". If he persists, then I would reply a bit more sternly and look for the box to intervene. Although I have no problem having the opposite base speaking up if I am calculating a set of complex prop bets incorrectly...especially at our place, where most of our boxes dont know what they are doing.

Member Posts: 474 05/22/08 07:19	Dealers that are always looking for other dealers mistakes are usually pretty weak dealers themselves. I don't worry about whats happening on the other end of the layout- thats not my side or concern. We have a ying-yang that is exactly what you are describing at my joint. He's the weakest dealer in the pit and makes a ton of mistakes yet he is always looking for other dealers mistakes to presumably take the heat off himself.

The gentleman (base dealer) in question clearly displayed a good company oriented attitude and should immediately be given a JC Penney credit card and be promoted to dual rate. He definitely deserves it, but unfortunately, our pit boss wouldn't find it that amusing. :/
