did anyone here find it a strange coincidence that American Airlines is now charging $15 for every checked bag on the heals of a jury awarding 9 skycaps
$325,000 in damages after the airline seized the $2 per bag fee that was intended to belong to the sky caps why check the bags at the curb?

has more to do with the price of fuel than any legal action. Believe me, get the biggest suitcase you can find because every single airline will be charging in short order. You want a pillow or blanket, you are going to be charged for that. And you may as well drink alchohol because you are going to be charged for soft drinks, juice and water. This is the way it is going to be from now on. If you still own an SUV, you might as well keep it cuz you ain't going to get much if you try to trade it in. If you don't mind living in a police state you can move to Saudi Arabia where fuel is 40 cents a gallon, or Venezuela where gas is 12 cents a gallon. |

Where do you get that Venezuela is a police state? Venezuela is more of a democracy than the US.

brazen it's funny you mention SUV's.. How about this. My next door neighbors are retiring and have decided to sell their house and become RV driving
senior citizens. their RV carries 100 gallons of diesel fuel and costs $450 to top off. They are selling a $250k home and are going to hand all their equity
to OPEC! My god these people are retarded. The funny thing is they have the nerve to bitch about the cost of fuel, but they replaced their home with a
vehicle that gets 8 (not kidding) miles per gallon.
There are only three major industries still supporting this countries economy. Think of these industries as legs on a tri-pod. If on legs collapses the whole thing falls over. Those industries are Agriculture (the largest of the three), the transportation industry, and the service industry. None of these can operate if the other fails. Isn't it great to finally get to the point where we have such little to rely on to support our economy? I've been trying to buy only products that are made in the USA, and encourage everyone else to do so, but it is almost impossible. My solution to our economy is this, raise the tariff an all imported goods to 100% and lower the tariff on all exported goods to 0% . This would put a higher demand on domestic products and for industry to start manufacturing their products in the U.S.again. As long as it's phased in gradually and American entrepreneurs have time to reestablish their domestic manufacturing capabilities before the people are hit with sticker shock, I believe it can be done. and it should be done. We need this fourth leg. manufacturing means jobs, and income for people to spend money on products made domestically. if not, we might as well withdraw all of our money and mail it to china. it's a safer way to destroy our economy without the risk of buying contaminated products from them. Let the people in Saudi Arabia have $.40/gallon gas they can afford to pay us $15 for a loaf of bread with the money they save. they have oil we have food, I believe food is a greater economic weapon. as it is now, OPEC is giving us just enough oil to keep us from nuking them. we can fight back by using the food produced in the U.S. as a weapon against them. I believe well will be if not already are in a full fledged depression. unlike the first great depression this one is caused by our week position in the global economy. Before it was simply because bankers used imaginary money to leverage stock purchases. went he margin calls came in there was no real money. Now, it's because all the money we spend is ending up off shore and we have little to sell them to get it back. What little gross domestic product we do sell them we let them have dirt cheep. This depression will take drastic measures correct, and if we allow it to get to bad, nothing short of another world war or even all out armed revolution will stop it. If there was ever a better time to buy fire arms, I cant think of one. It may not be long before people stop robbing for cash and start robbing for food and anyone who has food will be a target. Jobs will almost become non existent and as a result, people will turn to crime to survive. The government will not be able to sustain the people effected by the fallout with it's limited social programs for those who are unemployed. The people will revolt against the failing government armed with assault weapons the second amendment. You may be thinking, WOW Gef your talking some scary shit! But heres the scariest thing of all. Ask yourself what the new government will be like after the people dismantle the existing one. Any way, My rant is over, I'm going to go watch V for Vendetta now. |

I agree that we should use our food production as leverage, but I'm not sure how successful that would be. I also agree that people will become more and
more desperate, and the crime rate will skyrocket.
Eventually, we will invade a country for oil next time..not WMDs. Currently we are "in control" of 2 oil-rich nations, Iraq and Afghanistan, I think its time to take advantage of that situation. I know there are people that will say that is wrong, but one day it WILL BE survival of the fittest, and the good 'ol USA is going to have to steal another country's oil to survive...... |

Uhavenoaction wrote: There is a flaw with that. The problem is, Petroleum is finite. We've reached a point of maximum possible production knows as peak oil. We can invade oil rich nations all we want, but that doesnt change the fact that one day it will run out. and some time between now and then it will become harder to find and cost even more to get out of the ground. The oil wells in the middle east get a 30:1 ratio of energy in energy out. but to get the oil from places like the Canadian oil sands will get us only about 1.5:1 energy in energy out. Even worse is the lie that our own government is selling us about ethanol. Ethanol is made the same way other alcohols are made. It takes heat, and what is there source for generating that heat? OIL! we have to use Oil because it's the only fuel that gives at a positive return on the energy in, energy out ratio, and it's a very low ratio. Ethanol is a scam. In the mean time, we're diverting our preciouses food supply to manufacture bio fuels. So now we're using two precious commodities for energy, food and oil. What a scam! it gets even worse yet, We cant transport ethanol via pipeline. Why? IT'S ALCOHOL! it has to be shipped by trucks, trucks that burn diesel! As for Afghanistan, they don't have that much oil. Iraq does, but we cant take it for ourselves because it belongs to the people we are "liberating" to take their oil will only undermine what we're doing there . We are in Iraq so that GDub can hand out contracts for reconstruction to is good old boys who own corporations like Halliburton. Before the war Iraq was ruled by a dictator who wanted the wealth created by their oil, all we would do is create another dictatorship if it isn't already.. The world is already on a hair trigger with us and to do what your suggesting would make us a target of every world power on earth, and we cant survive that. The only real solution is to reduce our dependence on petroleum to ZERO! not just foreign oil, ALL OIL! If we can do this, we can kick back and watch the rest of the world destroy itself over the last little bits of oil, and when all is said and done, we could be relatively unaffected. Did you know that GDub's ranch in Texas is completely petroleum independent? He has the means to be an island withing that property, wind and solar energy, geothermal heating and cooling, well water as well as rain water collection and purification, live stock and crop land. If our own president is preparing to live without oil, what does he know that he isn't telling us? Here's why the people with power don't want us to be prepared for the collapse of petroleum because if we are self sufficient even without oil, they wont have power over us. If we continue as if oil will be here forever and one day the wells run dry, they will have all the power.

I hadn't thought of the Bush ranch as looking forward to post-oil, but it makes sense. I understand that Texas oil companies are hot on wind power right
now, erceting big towers on depleted oil fields.
