I gave my two weeks notice and the time is
near that I must move on. The casino business has been good to me for the better part of 20 years. I rose from the rank of craps dealer to CSM. I worked in
casinos up and down Nevada. I chose supervisory positions over dealing only because if I didn't, that other asshole would and I wanted to be a good leader
and treat the staff with respect and fairness a missing element when I dealt.
I made some good land investments in Las Vegas and I built a decent 401K plan. I made friends that I will miss dearly. Times change and my time is up.
The suburbs of Seattle Washington are where we're going. My wife of 25 years lost her father to cancer late last year and the family needs our help in
running a small chain of convenience stores he built. I have been thinking long and hard the past couple of months and
decided this will be best.
I plan on deleting my account on here today but I will check in from time to time and read what is going on that will more than likely reinforce my decision to
get out of the pits.
Closing thoughts:
To the Wynn Dealers: Good luck. Steve Wynn hand picked the best people to work for him and that is exactly what he got. More than he bargained for I would
imagine. You are the leaders of a new generation of casino employees. History will have a place for you.
Personally, I feel that Steve Wynn is indeed a brilliant man. He not only changed the landscape of Las Vegas and truly made it an international resort city but
he created many jobs for its residents. I have always admired the man and the risks he took. Overall he is a true visionary.
I was smart enough not to work for him. Many of us in the business knew he would be a handful long before he opened his Wynn Las Vegas. I think he missed with
the tip sharing fiasco. He opened a can of worms that may lead dealers to unionize up and down the Strip. Time will tell. It was bad enough the way it was for
pit supervisors with dealers making a better income but to add a union in the mix, nobody will want a floor job! One thing is for sure, I have absolutely no
desire to supervise union dealers.
To Scott, the owner of this site:
I don't always agree with the way you do things just letting the chips fall where they may. I think you should take a more active roll in all this but
overall you have given this industry a positive supplement to learning the games and a place to bitch and complain. As in life itself, sometimes we take things
for granted and never realize what we had until it is gone. If you closed shop today, ten websites will take your place and it will take years to get to this
level. The internet is here to stay. I hope you continue to make a mark in trying to bring this very stubborn community of those who work in casinos together
for the common good. I wish you and Jacki, your lovely wife all the best. You have always been a good friend and a man of good character.
To all those who visit here but do not write your thoughts:
You should. An old phrase we use on these forums "It's better to light
a candle than curse the darkness"
Become a member of this community and light candles. These forums are only as good as those who write their thoughts. Don't just read them, be a part of
all this.
Good luck everyone.
