Time for the Union to step up |
Lead | |
|
I hope our union representitves are present at the meeting of the people who are suspended at the Wynn. Hopefully everything will work out ok. Are our shop
stewards present at all of the write ups and suspensions that have been occuring this week? I'd like to think we are getting something for all the hooplah
we've gone through.

what you are going to get is the opportunity to stay at the Wynn and make $50 grand when all the big play is moved to the Encore.

If you think Steve Wynn is not going to push all of the big play over to the Encore, you are Crazy. I have said before, I don't agree with what he is doing, and I don't think I would work under those conditions. It would hard to be impartial. And I would not work where all the dealers hate all of the floor. Having said that, you get what you ask for. . |

However, if discipline was already determined (suspension) then a Shop Steward would not have been granted. Any "hearings" which may occur, a Shop Steward can be present if the dealers request them. The Union can not force anyone to be accompanied by a Shop Steward if they don't want/ask for them. I am sure the Union will do whatever they can to help those members who are involved, but it MUST start with the member conatcting the Union, and maybe they have. |

That's about a year since the union was voted in at Wynn, no? So, where's the contract?

Badges. You have to remember that it takes 2 sides to negotiate. The union will play by the rules. Management may or may not. The union has to give the
casino every opportunity to negotaite in good faith. Contracts aren't decided upon overnight. Remember that Mr. Wynn's lawyers need to eat too. They
wouldn't want this decided quickly.

FIRST CONTRACTS will always take awhile to negotiate. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out why, but you do have to have some common sense to understand. Once the first contract is secure, all subsequent contracts will be negotiated in a very short period of time because they will be based on the language of the first contract. How long did the Culinary members go last year without a contract? But they DID have a previous contract to build off of now didn't they. |

The other dealers have not been in contact with the Union as far as I know. As for the Floor, well they are NOT in the Union and have been fired. I also know that the Union has gotten several dealers their jobs back over the last year with only one exception. The one who didn't get their job back...well they took the situation out of control on the casino floor in front of customers and with management. A losing battle. You see, the Union can not get back everyone's job, some people are just beyond help. |
