Mohegan sun poker |

Mohegan sun is going to be opening a 42 table card room sometime in the near future. Could this card room compete w/ foxwoods and have a high volume of
players?

It would seem to me that if the room is run well it should be able to do well. I hear many players gripe about foxwoods so they should be willing to give the
Sun a try. But players are strange sometimes and its hard to guess where the games will go.

Scheduled to open Aug. 29th. Along with the Casino of the Wind Expansion.
They Just went through the hiring process for the Poker Director. I am not sure who they hired. I heard there were about a half dozen applicants from various poker markets. I am not sure if they have actually chosen yet. I hope to see a certain pit tonight, who may know. From looking at the interest of poker applications, there must be 400+ in house dealers who want to get into the poker department. |

I heard on 2+2 that MS was looking at using at least some PokerPro electronic tables.
Id they do, it will likely hurt the room. Hollywood Park tried an ePoker room and it lasted less than 6 months. |

Electronic tables are pointless. People go to poker rooms for many reasons, but one of the main reasons is for the feel of the cards, or at least that is why I
go. I've seen e-tables on Carnival cruise ships, and that's about as far as they'll make it, IMHO. The only reason they will be used there is
because there isn't a need to have a ton of poker dealers switching out when there is only one table going for the poker addicts on a cruise. An e-table
room is worse. If you are going to have a bunch of tables, it is more cost beneficial to pay some dealers to deal. They get a real feel for the cards, the
chips, everything. An e-table is just like playing online, with the exception that you are surrounded by real people all looking at computer screens attached
to the same table. There are constant problems with these tables as well (ie: betting the wrong amount, calling when a fold is meant, etc, etc.) and the people
who don't trust 'computers' to be random enough that they are pre-set or whatever will cause problems too. It's disasterous, and no wonder it
didn't last more than 6 months.

The new Mohegan Poker Room manager spot went to a great guy.... we just had a going away party for him the other day...
he just left the Borgata in Atlantic City where I work at. He was a shift manager there. I really enjoyed working for him. I found him a pleasure to be around; (not allowed to use real names on this website, so...) he's hard working, and witty.... but if you are slacking off, he will let you know.... (he just expects people to do their jobs.). He's a people person, and easy to talk to... he's cool... Congrats and way to go!! |

That's great to hear, since I am going to be dealing in the new poker room. Hopefully he will be introducing himself this week or next, all I know is that
he was a shift at the Borgata as you say.
The Mohegan Sun just had an open house three days this week, and got over a hundred people a day applying for dealers school. Some dealers from Foxwoods also were in the crowd. It is really a popular job opportunity in this area right now, probably all together 500 + people wanting to get into the openings. |

How exactly do you know your dealing in the new poker room at the Sun? I am currently working at the casino to get the poker room going. There have been NO dealers hired as of June 19th 2008. We had the Job Fair that ended today that yielded closer to 200 people a day, over half either a. didnt pass the math test b. Didn't get a second interview. The classes for those that were accepted start on the 30th and runs through the 3rd week of August. There are also classes currently going on, which includes some in house employees. The hiring process works like this...The top 5% of the classes will be offered positions in the room as dealers. This includes current employees. Those people when then choose what shifts they want, if shifts fill up, it will go in order of score. It is open to anyone, just because you work for the Sun doesnt gauruntee you a position as a dealer in the room. Of the nearly 1000 people that applied for the positions, only 400 were offered the classes. By same way or another, there will probably be under 300 that actually finish the class. Of that 300, about 100 will become dealers..others info will be held on file for futher review. |

Hi DuecesUp,
" since I am going to be dealing in the new poker room " You are right, I left out the word hopefully. It was supposed to be more of a statement of my intent and what I am working hard towards, not a fact that I am in the poker room. My post was more about the excitement that people have around the opening of the room, and the large amount of applicants for the training classes. It's is a very exciting time for a dealer who loves poker |
