A non-profit school where I am a volunteer has frequent "Vegas Nights" throughout the year to raise money. The events are well attended and we make good money for the school. In fact we own our own 14' table and might purchase another because so many people want to play.
Being a charitable game, we are not obligated to have standard rules and/or normal payouts to pretty much assure the odds are in the house's favor. Players don't really mind but there are nights when the house loses pretty big on craps. Our minimum bet any where is $1 and the Max is $5. The house doesn't allow odds (at all)-- I think mostly because the dealers don't know how to calculate the numbers. On the prop bets, it's the same thing; $1/$5 however, the payouts are reduced by about 30%. So, a 12 would pay 20 to 1 instead of the normal 30 to 1. A 3 pays 10 to 1 instead of 15 to 1, etc, etc. It's a slow bleed for the players but agian, they don't mind because the money is going to a good case.
I started dealing there about 3 years ago and at that time, the "don't come" bet was taped off as in not allowing players to place that bet. "Come" bet are allowed (but with no odds) When I asked some of the old times why the don't allow a "don't come" bet the response was, "because it's always been that way." The only reason that I could think of is that somebody at one time wanted to structure the game so players were forced to bet against the house. That might be the case but we still allow "don't pass" bets (with no odds).
I am trying to make the game more profitable for the house ( I should say "even" more profitable) and am suggesting that we raise our max limit to $10 (from $5) and raise our minimums to $2.
I also suggesting we allow at least single odds because it puts more money in action (both pass and don't pass).
I am also suggesting we allow players to bet the "don't come" bet and then, "lay" single odds.
I am not suggesting leave the prop bet payouts the same as it will discourage players from going into the middle (where we already have a 30% redux in payouts "that is "if " they hit the number.
Sure would appreciate any/all comments. While we have several Vegas events during the year, the way I look at it, our "casino" is open for a mere 8 hours a day for 20 days a year so... we have to make money in the few short hours that the casino is open for business
Thoughts?
