I should have realized that we would have peak oil on here. For some reason i don't take much interest in it. Hell it may be true but as the price of petrol increases then people WILL be forced to find other alternatives and/or live in towns where they can walk to markets and schools and work,etc. That will be a good thing for us all but that suburban tract home buyer may be on the endangered species list. Oh well. If you guys are interested in this then read books by Howard...

I think Badges has got it right on this one. I've been thinking Peak Oil for some time now, and this is the year that everyone is planting a garden, carpooling, wearing old clothes and remembering how to cook. But I live in the northern woods and most people here are only a generation or two away from ancestors who have had to do for themselves before. This particular slump will pass, but there are more on the horizon, and they look to be worse.

That is funny, because we must have the same FRIENDS at Wynn. He told me the ever increasing gas price is because Steve Wynn is taking 10 to 20% of the profits.

Even if it is not true I am sure someone will blame it on him anyway.

Actually, since the establishment of the Federal Reserve in 1913 the dollar has lost over 95% of its' value. There were two currencies in the U.S. that went to zero, the Continental and the Confederate dollar.

well today i realised that food has gone up, i went grocery shopping and wow did i notice the price difference,
now i only go grocery shopping 2x a month but man come on almost 4 dollars for a loaf of bread, just rememberwhat i said , lets play it cool and not get into hot water and any unnecessary spending, try to pay off those bills so we can get ahead.

That being said, I think it only prolongs the inevitable... we have to run out of resources. I think our end will be due to a virus, not an oil shortage.

Fletch, read the web site (at least the first page - long - linked again below). You're missing the point somewhat. It's not "running out of oil" or resources that is the problem, so much the decline of the availability of those resources after the peak is reached. The "peak"...

Did anyone see the documentary 'Crude?' It was on one of the educational channels (National Geographic, I think). It talks about how the Earth self regenerates. Rather interesting. It states that we are doing nothing but speeding up the process of self regeneration. That the Earth was designed to have increasing temperatures and ice ages. Sometimes when you see the marvel of the Earth, it really does give you pause for thought as to whether their really is an 'ultimate designer.'

Well readers I'm a bit of an amateur armchair economist and I think we are in for some tough times. I know you think things are tough now but six months down the road may be a lot worse. Our economy is slowing yet we have rising gas prices and food prices....................oh yeah that's cause China and India started eating three squares a day.......it isn't that the dollar has lost value against other currencies...gold...oil...wheat...etc.....................NO!!.
