Before you go visit a place like Columbia, imagine the Greyhound bus station in downtown St. Louis at 12:00am. Now imagine an entire country just like that bus station only imagine jungle all around. Anyone who has ever been to this bus station knows exactly what I'm talking about.

Jesus cardmechanic, you make it sound that most Americans are pussies. That reminds me of when I was in South America and inquired to other travelers why there weren't many people from the U.S. traveling in those parts. I thought it was because of our short vacations. Yeah, in my joint we have a lot of "big money" coming from international play as well. We do have a lot of "big money" from domestic players as well though, and maybe even moreso. If we were to clear out all who do not qualify as "big money", would the casino survive? No way.

Considering what it takes to travel throughout the world, would you rather be someone from outside of the U.S. flying to the U.S. or fly to a region that is not nearly as secure?...

I can see all the Californians driving to Macau! I guess Americans don't gamble? Take a look around your casino and see who is actually populating the casino floor. Just because some may "look" like they are not Americans doesn't mean they are not. And BTW, not many people want to spend several days traveling to go drop a few bucks.

No, those people will just drive to the Indian casinos. It'll be a win-win for them. They can smoke...

I have worked at quite a few casinos here in Vegas, most of them actually had smoking rooms for the employees. The condition of these rooms was enough to gag a maggot off the shit wagon and they were actually CLEANED sometimes. The smoking room at the Texas Station was so small that we could barely fit 10 people in it at a time and at any given time there was at least 20 in there! The walls get so freaking nasty, the floors, tables, chairs EVERYTHING! Imagine if they decide to furnish...

I am a smoker who has tried to quit quite a few time's now.
The smokers where I work must walk forever on they're breaks to have a cigarette because we have no smoking room.
I am fine with banning smoking in casino's it sure would be much easier to quit if when I came back from my break there were not 6 people blowing smoke in my face.
I have braved the freezing cold as well as the 110 degree heat just to get my fix .

New Jersey is going to allow the casinos to add a smoking room but it cannot be manned. So what I see coming is virtual BJ tables with no dealer at all and player smoking and playing and no one gets tokes at all.

I agree, If the place I'm in doesn't want me to smoke, I will respect their wish. what i dont respect is people who not only don't want me to stand directly at the front door( I can sort of understand this) but don't want smoking any ware on their property. if I have to walk more than 50 feet from the building to light up I draw the line.

what really get me to laugh is when a place announces that they are 100% smoke free so they see fit to remove all ash treys from...

Once ALL casinos ban smoking, then there will be no adverse effect on the casinos bottom line. Just as the casino next door or down the road makes the customer earn comp points via a player's card, when they ALL do it, then there is no choice, so it is accepted by the patrons.

Or they go to Macau...

It's great that someone is taking into consideration the health effects of second hand smoke on employees, however considering that the casino floor has always been an unhealthy environment in that regard I don't think there is a single non smoking dealer who can honestly say that they didn't take the job knowing full well that the health hazard existed.

It's not a matter of if smoking will eventually be banned in all casinos everywhere but a matter of when....

when they did it here in ontario a couple years back, out toke rate suffered for about a month but at rama, north of toronto it dropped 2 to 3 bucks and has never recovered.

Smoking proponents can get anything they want to into the paper, sort of like one particular toke stealing casino owner here in Las Vegas does. That means nothing. They stopped smoking in all restaurants and people did not stop eating. They stopped smoking in all decent poker rooms in Las Vegas and people are still playing poker.
